The highest temperature recorded in southern Canada was 115 degrees Fahrenheit (46.6 degrees Celsius).

This is the highest temperature recorded in Canada in the last 84 years. Experts say the ‘heat dome’ created by successive heat waves in the U.S. Pacific Northwest is responsible for Canada’s high temperatures.

The village of Lytton, in the southern hinterland of British Columbia, was hit by high temperatures on Sunday. Areas including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming and California have been warned of high temperatures this week.

The general public in the United States and Canada advised staying in cool places to avoid life-threatening situations. The previous highest temperature in Canada was 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit) in 1937 in the central province of Saskatchewan.

The government has also warned of the risk of wildfires due to the high temperatures.
